Otters Announce Trade With Belleville

ERIE, PA – Erie Otters General Manager and Governor Sherry Bassin has announced the acquisition of left wing Michael Curtis from the Belleville Bulls in exchange for forward Luke Cairns.

Michael Curtis, a 6-foot, 181-pound forward, has spent his entire junior career with the Belleville Bulls. Drafted 32nd overall in the second round of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection Draft, Curtis has tallied 51 goals and 48 assists for 99 points in 243 regular season games.

“Michael Curtis is a high character player, who is a proven leader and knows about winning,” Sherry Bassin said. “He is a special player and we are extremely proud to have him join our up and coming team.”

Erie Otters Assistant Director of Hockey Operations, Dave Brown, expects a strong defensive game from the newly acquired forward.

“He’s very responsible in his own end,” said Dave Brown of Curtis. “He is a strong defensive player and very good on face-off duties.”

The Otters also received a third round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection Draft that previously belonged to the Mississauga Steelheads in the exchange for Luke Cairns.

Cairns was drafted in the third round of the 2010 Priority Selection Draft. During his three seasons with the Otters he amassed 31 goals and 61 assists for 92 points in 191 games.
