Otters Fall 4-1 to Sudbury at Home

Erie, Pennsylvania – The Otters started off the night trying to improve off of last weekend’s struggles. Coming up short on two powerplay chances in the first half of the period, the Otters conceded a goal to Sudbury’s Nolan Hutcheson when a shot from the corner ricocheted off of an Erie skate and into the net. This was quickly followed by a 4-on-4 opportunity where Kurtis Henry stepped up on a loose puck and roofed it behind Buffalo Sabres prospect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to tie the game at one heading into the second period

The second period built off of the first, with both sides trading chances evenly. Around the midway point of the game, a loose puck in front of the Erie net was knifed past Daniel Murphy, putting the Wolves up 2-1. The teams traded powerplay chances and came up short, and they headed to the locker room with the Otters retaining 33 seconds of their man advantage for the beginning of the third stanza.

Erie started the third period on the powerplay, and had a handful of chances, but were ultimately stopped short. The Wolves answered with a wrist shot goal from defenseman Isaak Phillips and widened their lead to two. Things began to get worse for the Otters as Maxim Golod was sent to the box for high sticking, and Sudbury capitalized on the following opportunity to make it 4-1.

Kyle Maksimovich’s first period assist moved him into sole possession of eight all-time on the team’s assist leaders with the 147th of his career, while that point tied him with Greg McKegg for ninth on the team’s scoring list with 231. The Otters will look to bounce back tomorrow night at home against the Saginaw Spirit before heading to the road for a three-game road swing.
