Otters Get First Home Win Over Rival London Knights
Veronica Sacco

The Erie Otters got their first win on home ice tonight against the London Knights, 5-2.  Coach Hartsburg switched up the lines for this game which seemed to bolster chemistry right off the bat.

The Otters came out strong in the first period, immediately a different team from last night’s lackluster first half in Kitchener.  Ivan Lodnia found himself in the penalty box for slashing towards the end of the first, but the Otters excelled on the penalty kill and Jordan Sambrook scored shorthanded for Erie to make it 1-0 leading into the second.

The Knights evened the score in the next period of play but Kyle Maksimovich answered back for Erie with a snipe to put them up 2-1 just under halfway through the second.

Jack Duff was called for interference 4:14 into the third period, leading to the Otters’ second shorthanded goal of the game, this time from Ivan Lodnia.  Gera Poddubnyi scored the insurance goal for the Otters at 11:18, to which London quickly answered to make it 4-2.  Poddubnyi scored again to put the nail in the coffin for London towards the end of the final period of play.  The final score was 5-2, with Erie outshooting London 35 to 21.

Troy Timpano had a 0.905 save percentage to Kooy’s 0.857 on the night.

The Otters are back in action next Wednesday in Owen Sound at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, 7pm.
