The Erie Otters lost to the Owen Sound Attack by a final score of 5-2 tonight, despite opening up the scoring in the first period. The Otters are now 1-2 when scoring first. Owen Headrick picked up the third star of the night in the loss at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Ivan Lodnia opened the scoring early in the first period, but the Attack answered back with two goals before the first was even halfway over. Christian Girhiny almost tied it up minutes after Owen Sound’s second goal, but his shot ricocheted off the post.
First star of the night Aidan Dudas netted the game winner at 8:46 into the second period. Roughly five minutes later, Maksimovich scored on the first power play of the game to make it 3-2, but Dudas scored his second of the night just minutes later to restore Owen Sound’s two-goal lead.
The Otters spent a grand total of 2 full minutes on the penalty kill in the third, despite accruing two minor penalties in the period, and one that carried over from the second. Jacob Friend, second star of the night, scored a power play goal late in the third to put the Attack up 5-2.
Despite having their moments of dominating play, the Otters were ultimately outshot 39 to 24 in the 3-goal-deficit loss. Erie plays in a back-to-back game tomorrow night in Barrie at 7:30pm against the Colts at the Barrie Molson Centre before returning home for this Saturday’s matchup against Niagara.
