The defending OHL champion Erie Otters celebrated their tremendous 2016-17 accomplishments on Saturday night at Erie Insurance Arena, raising their 2017 championship banner to the rafters prior to puck drop against the Kitchener Rangers.
The Otters, who feature 14 returning players from last year’s championship run, are the latest OHL club to commemmorate last season’s accomplishments. Midwest Division champions for a third straight season, they join other division winners in the Central Division and Eastern Conference champion Mississauga Steelheads, East Division champion Peterborough Petes and West Division champion Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in raising banners to the heights of their respective facilities.
Otters Owner and Governor Jim Waters and COO Roy Mlakar joined the team on the ice for a pre-game as a highlight video relived the excitement following Anthony Cirelli’s overtime winner in Game 5 of the Rogers OHL Championship Series.
