Owen Sound, Ontario – The Erie Otters collected one point against the Owen Sound Attack in Owen Sound, being held off 4-3 in a shootout after Erie forward Brett Bressette tied the game with his first OHL goal early in the third period.

With both teams playing on the tail end of back-to-back games, Sunday’s matinee had a slow start. Owen Sound goaltender Mack Guzda stopped 11 shots in the first period, and Erie netminder Aidan Campbell saved all nine shots he faced. The two clubs went into the intermission scoreless.

The Otters opened the contest’s scoring with two goals in 27 seconds near the beginning of the second period. Brendan Hoffmann scored at the 3:23 mark of the frame with Danial Singer and Brendan Sellan collecting assists. On the following play, Erie captain Jack Duff fed the puck to Danial Singer who netted his sixth goal of the season and notched his fourth point in two games. Owen Sound’s Adam McMaster answered quickly for the Attack, scoring just over five minutes into the period. The Attack’s Aidan Dudas and Brady Lyle both added goals before the second stanza ended. Owen Sound took its 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Erie did not require much time in the third period to tie the game. Playing in his third career OHL game, Otter’s rookie call-up Brett Bressette notched his first career OHL goal just three minutes and six seconds into the final frame. Drew Hunter and Noah Sedore assisted on the game-tying goal. Guzda kept the score 3-3 and got the Attack into overtime by adding 13 saves in the third period, giving him 44 through regulation.

Guzda turned aside six Otters shots in overtime for a 50 save performance in the game, and a shootout was required. In the first round of the shootout, Singer scored for the Otters, but he was matched by Lyle. Owen Sound’s Matthew Philip scored the only other goal in the skills competition and the Otters fell by a final score of 4-3.

Erie is back in action Friday, November 16 with a 7 p.m. matchup against Windsor when the Otters will host the Spitfires at the Erie Insurance Arena.
