Otters add to staff

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League are pleased to announce the hiring three new people to their business and hockey staff.

Aaron Cooney will join the Erie Otters in August 2013 as Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations. Aaron will serve as the voice of the Otters while acting as the liaison between the media and the team. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Aaron graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and a minor in Public Relations from Point Park University where he was the voice for all things Pioneers. Prior to joining the Otters, Aaron interned with the Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network for the 2013 NHL season and also spent six months with Pittsburgh Sports Radio 93.7 The Fan.

The Otters will also introduce Cam MacDonald as the teams full-time Goaltending Coach.  Cam has worked and coached with Ian Clark, the goalie coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League.  During the 2011-12 Cam worked for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL.  Then in the 2012-13 season he worked with the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League, where he helped guide the team to the League Championship, Presidents Cup.  Cam worked as a special consultant for the Otters last season, where the Otters were very happy with his work ethic.  Cam MacDonald says “I am really excited to be a part of the Otters Organization!  We have two great goalies in Oscar (Dansk) and Devin (Williams).  I can’t wait to get the season started.”  Sherry Bassin, Otters General Manager and Managing Partner, is quoted as saying, “Cam will be a significant addition to the Erie Otters.  He already has a relationship with our goalies, and truly believes in their ability.”

The Erie Otters have also filled the void at the Equipment Manager position.  Kevin Putzig will be taking over those duties for the Otter.  Kevin has spent the past few seasons as the Assistant Equipment Manager with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.  Kevin comes highly recommended from the Otters former Athletic Trainer, Dave Stickney, who worked with him in Bridgeport.
