Swankler Scores Twice In Otters 4-1 Win Over Guelph
Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Otters rebounded with a 4-1 win against the reigning OHL Champion Guelph Storm Saturday night at the Erie Insurance Arena on the back of Austen Swankler’s first two-goal OHL game.
Erie gained momentum early on by killing a Chad Yetman tripping penalty 21 seconds into the game and sustained it throughout the period. Austen Swankler opened the night’s scoring at the 14:26 mark of the first after the Otters held prolonged pressure in the Storm’s zone.
The Otters continued to control play in the second period despite allowing the first goal of the frame. Guelph’s Ty Collins scored with just under four minutes remaining, but the Storm did not hold its lead. Swankler retook the lead for the Otters just 40 seconds after the Guelph goal, notching his second of the night, and the game-winning goal, giving Erie a 2-1 advantage heading into the third.
Erie began the final period by scoring two goals in the first eight minutes thanks to Emmett Sproule and Chad Yetman. The Otters did not let up and carried play until the final buzzer, outshooting the Storm 27-14, and defeating the Storm 4-1.
