Otters Announce Partnership with Erie Youth Hockey Association

Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Otters Hockey Club is pleased to announce its partnership with the Erie Youth Hockey Association in the creation of the Junior Otters hockey program and the continued support of growing the game of hockey in the Erie region.

“We are proud to help Erie Youth Hockey grow and develop,” Erie Otters Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Roy Mlakar said. “This association with the Otters is very important to us. Hopefully we are watching home grown Otters players in the making.”

Since 2015 the Otters have partnered with EYHA to use 50/50 raffle proceeds to benefit their wide range of hockey programs. This agreement will continue to benefit EYHA through the Otters game night 50/50 raffle, while also bolstering the team’s support of youth hockey in the region.

The Erie Otters coaching staff and players will participate in multiple on-ice functions with EYHA teams throughout each season, including practices, coaches clinics, skills sessions, and a yearly summer camp. The Otters also grant EYHA the use of the name “Jr. Otters” with the creation of their AA/AAA 12U and 14U. The 14U team will be coached by Stanley Cup Champion and Erie Otters Alum Mike Rupp. These teams will compete in the highest level of competition for their age with the focus on developing and growing youth players in the Erie area.

“Erie Youth Hockey Association is very excited to announce our partnership with the Erie Otters,” said EYHA President Sean Carroll. “This partnership has allowed us to realize our vision for higher level hockey in the Erie area. The commitment from the Otters, both on and off the ice, has been tremendous. From the recent coaches clinic run by the Otters’ coaching staff and their commitment to run future clinics and practices along with the Otters’ players, to the backing of a 14U Jr. Otters team that will play at a AA/AAA level and a 12U Jr. Otters tournament team demonstrates their desire to work with us to continue to develop hockey in the Erie region.”

The 14U team will be holding tryouts Sunday, March 26th from 8-10 a.m. at JMC Ice Arena. Signups and tryouts for the other Jr. Otters teams will begin in the near future.
