Otters Hire Shane Clifford as Goaltending Coach

Erie, Pennsylvania – Erie Otters General Manager Dave Brown announced today that the team has hired Shane Clifford as goaltending coach for the 2018-19 season.

“We are excited to add Shane and his experience to our staff,” Dave Brown said of the employment, “he has a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Hockey League having worked with Everett in the WHL tutoring CHL goalie of the year Carter Hart. Adding a Pittsburgh native who has worked with some of the States’ best goaltenders is a major addition to our program.”

During the 2017-18 hockey season, Clifford served as goaltending coach for the Sioux City Musketeers and Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League, as well as the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, where he assisted Philadelphia Flyers prospect Carter Hart to goaltender of the year honors for the WHL and Canadian Hockey League. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has developed goaltenders throughout many levels of hockey and has served in similar coaching positions for the Pittsburgh Penguins (National Hockey League), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (American Hockey League), Johnstown Chiefs (East Coast Hockey League), Ohio State University (NCAA Big Ten), and Les Ducs d’Angers (French Elite League).

“I’m very excited to join such an esteemed organization in the Erie Otters,” said Shane Clifford. “I cannot wait to join Dave, Chris, the rest of the hockey staff and the goaltenders on the ice at training camp.”

Clifford also owns and operates the Shane Clifford Goalie School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he resides with his family. Founded in 2001, Clifford’s program has grown into one of the premier goalie schools in the United States featuring John Gibson (Anaheim Ducks, NHL), Parker Milner (Hershey Bears, AHL), Sean Romeo (Ohio State University, NCAA), and Jake Hildebrand (Tulsa Oilers, ECHL) as some of the program’s notable graduates.

The Erie Otters embark on their 23rd year of junior hockey in northwestern Pennsylvania this fall.
